Scoil Náisiúnta Rathain / Rahan National School

The first Rahan National School was built in 1862 and is no longer standing. The current smaller structure in Rahan N.S. was opened in 1948. It is the building inside the main gate. It was a two teacher school, built on an acre site with open fires for heating and out side toilets. Electricity, indoor flush toilets and central heating were installed by the 70s.

By 1970 it was still a two teacher school with an enrolment of 32, numbers started to increase after that and it became a three teacher school in the early 80s, a four teacher school in ’86 and a five teacher school for one school year in the ’93/’94 school year.

Prefabs were added as a temporary measure in the 80s to accommodate the growing numbers. A new school was sought, the school site was extended but it was not to be. The temporary measure of the 80s was finally replaced by more prefabs in 2008.

Our new building project commenced during the summer 2013 and we moved into the new building on Friday the 6th December 2014.
